EUNICE, La. (KLFY) – The man and woman who will face murder charges for the death of Akeem Ceasar, 22, are in custody in Texas, according to the Eunice Police Department.

Police Chief Randy Fontenot said investigators believe Phillip Lafleur, 22, of Eunice, is responsible for Ceasar’s death during a press conference Thursday afternoon.

Candice Vidrine, 21, also of Eunice, is suspected to have “participated in or at least had knowledge of the murder,” according to Fontenot.

Lafleur and Vidrine, who had been persons of interest in the case, were arrested on February 14 in San Angelo, Texas after stealing a truck and taking police there on a brief chase.

San Angelo police officers discovered two handguns in the suspect’s vehicle that had been reported stolen during a burglary in Eunice days earlier.

Fontenot said neither of the handguns is believed to have been used as the murder weapon.

Detectives from the Eunice Police Department traveled to Texas and found enough probable cause to suspect Lafleur for the murder of Ceasar.

Now, Eunice Police will obtain warrants to arrested Lafleur and Vidrine for Second Degree Murder and other charges.

The police chief explained this process could take some time given the charges the two face in Texas.

A group of men discovered Ceasar’s body on February 1, in a wooded area near East Magnolia Avenue in Eunice.

Ceasar had been missing since December 24, 2015.

An autopsy report revealed that he died of a single gunshot wound.

Investigators have not released details on when they think Ceasar was murdered.

Ceaser’s mother, Vanessa Lewis, told News 10 she’s dealing with the loss of her son one day at a time.

“I want the people who wronged Akeem just to think about that you done because God has the last say. I’ve cried enough and I’m just going to see that my son is getting blessed.”

Fontenot says the investigation is still “very active” and ask anyone with information about the case to call Eunice Police at (337) 457-2626.
