Terrebonne Parish has approved a $150,000 loan to Options for Independence for the construction of a new house for a low- to moderate-income family.

Officials with Options for Independence, a local nonprofit focused on helping at-risk area residents, said construction on a three-bedroom single-family home should begin March 1 and be completed June 1.

The Courier reports (http://bit.ly/17buFlq ) the loan represents one of the final pieces of a roughly $3.2 million pool of federal disaster recovery money set aside for the local in-fill housing program aimed at upgrading neighborhoods and eliminating blighted property.
