Three St. Martin Parish residents have been arrested for cockfighting, according to the sheriff’s office.
Major Ginny Higgins says deputies made the arrests while serving a search warrant in the 1000 block of Nanny Road near Breaux Bridge around 3:45 p.m.
Investigators reportedly seized 48 roosters and 300 hens and chickens. The birds were picked up by investigators with the assistance of the St. Martin Parish Animal Coordinator with St. Martin and St. Landry Parish Animal Control personnel and Dr. Jackie Simon. The birds were placed in the custody of St. Martin Parish Animal Services.
The following three men were arrested and charged as follows:
Patrick Stelly, 50, Washington, Louisiana

48 Counts-La. R.S. 14:102.23 Cock fighting
Dallas Grossie 30, Butte La Rose, Louisiana
24 Counts-LA. R.S. 14:102 Cruelty to Animals
24 Counts-La. R.S. 14:102.23 Cock fighting
Brandon Cormier, 28, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana
24 Counts-LA. R.S. 14:102 Cruelty to Animals
24 Counts-La. R.S. 14:102.23 Cock fighting
The men were booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on those charges. At this time, no bond has been set.
Major Higgins believes that all of the roosters were used for cockfighting.
