U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) on Wednesday announced that five Louisiana airports will receive grants totaling $1,584,465 from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for rehabilitation and construction projects.

“Modern, reliable infrastructure is absolutely critical to growing businesses and bringing good paying jobs to Louisiana. These investments will improve five growing terminals across the state and ensure that our air travel is safe,” Vitter said.

Tangipahoa Parish’s Hammond Regional Airport will receive $425,000 to fund the design phase of a project related to rehabilitation of a runway’s pavement.

Slidell, La.’s airport will be receiving a grant of $419,934. These funds will aid in taxi rehabilitation – financing the application of a new seal coat to taxiway pavement which will aid in maintaining the structural integrity of the taxiway and help to minimize foreign object debris.

Two airports, the Houma-Terrebonne Airport Commission in Houma, La. and the Union Parish Airport in Farmerville, La., will each be receiving grants funding design stages of taxiway construction to improve safety and meet design standards. The two will be receiving $300,000 and $67,500, respectively.

Additionally, False River Regional Airport in New Roads, La. will be receiving a federal grant of $372,031 to rehabilitate an apron. This grant will provide funds for pavement overlay on existing terminal apron – maintaining structural integrity of the apron’s pavement.
