(The Advertiser)- Voters in Lafayette Parish will be able to weigh in on two millage renewals Saturday.

The first one, a 10-year renewal for a 8.76-mill property tax, will go toward funding the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office. If passed, it’s expected to generate about $20 million annually, equal to approximately a third of the sheriff’s office’s budget.

The second is a 10-year renewal for 1.5-mil property tax on homeownersin Iberia, Lafayette, St. Martin and Vermilion parishes, and funds the Teche-Vermilion Fresh Water District. The money generated — about $5.6 million annually — is used to power five pumps that can push 1,300 cubic feet of water per second, electricity costs to run the pumps, salaries for 11 crew members and three administrative employees, and maintenance.

Here are a few things to know before you head to your polling place:

• Polls open at 7 a.m., and close at 8 p.m. If you’re in line at 8 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.
• Bring your ID. A Louisiana driver’s license, a Louisiana Special ID card or a passport will be accepted. If you don’t have your ID, you will be required to fill out an affidavit, but you will still be allowed to vote.
